International Baccalaureate (IB)

Okayama University became the first national university in Japan to introduce the International Baccalaureate (IB) Admissions in 2012 academic year. Okayama University, Faculty of Medicine adopted IB admissions in 2015, with an enrollment capacity of 5 students (3 students from 2015 to 2017). By 2024 academic year, 95 IB graduates have applied to the IB admissions. The admissions process does not include academic tests; instead, applicants are evaluated based on their high school academic records (IB scores), a statement of purpose, and an interview. As of 2024, 5 students have graduated from Okayama University, Faculty of Medicine, and 23 students are currently enrolled, playing central and active roles within the university.

The reason Okayama University, Faculty of Medicine takes the lead in accepting International Baccalaureate students lies in the alignment between the competencies fostered by IB education and the school’s admissions policy.
