Medical Student Participates in the 36th Izumo All-Japan University Ekiden Championship!
On October 14, 2024, two students from the Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, competed as athletes in the 36th Izumo All-Japan University Ekiden Championship (Izumo Ekiden).
The Izumo Ekiden, along with the Hakone Ekiden and the All-Japan University Ekiden, is one of Japan’s three major university ekiden relay races. Among these, the Izumo Ekiden is the newest addition to the prestigious trio.
The participating medical students were Mr. Yasuaki Hinago, a second-year student, and Mr. Ryota Iwasaki, a fifth-year student. Both are members of the athletics club on the Shikata Campus and also participate in the athletics club on the Tsushima Campus. This dual membership allowed them to join their teammates from the Tsushima Campus in representing Okayama University in the Izumo Ekiden.
After the event, Mr. Iwasaki and Mr. Hinago visited Dean Shinichi Toyooka to report on the results of the race. Mr. Iwasaki, who ran the 4th leg, and Mr. Hinago, who ran the 2nd leg, shared their experiences of running along the cheering-filled roads of Izumo. Dean Toyooka expressed his appreciation for their efforts and offered words of encouragement for their next competition.
With the support of the Shikata Campus Photography Club, the athletes took a commemorative photo with Dean Toyooka, reaffirming their determination to excel in the upcoming All-Japan University Ekiden Championship on November 3.
