Basketball Hoops Upgraded Through Generous Contributions from the OBOG Association
On March 21, 2025, the long-awaited replacement of the basketball hoops at the Shikata Campus Gymnasium was finally completed!
The old hoops had been a cause for concern due to their aging condition and potential safety risks. However, given the university’s current financial constraints, securing funds for the replacement had proven difficult.
Fortunately, in response to this situation, generous support came from the alumni of the School of Medicine Basketball Club. Led by Dr. Hisashi Tsuji, President of the Okayama Red Cross Hospital and head of the alumni association (OBOG-kai), the alumni stepped forward with a substantial donation, making the replacement project possible.
The new basketball hoops were installed on March 20 and officially handed over to the university the following day. Since then, club members have eagerly resumed their practice with the new equipment.
In appreciation of the generous contribution, a formal letter of gratitude was presented to the OBOG-kai. On March 25, a presentation ceremony was held in which Professor Motoro Araki—current advisor of the Basketball Club—accepted the certificate on behalf of the alumni association from Professor Shinichi Toyooka, Dean of the School of Medicine. Members of the basketball club also attended the ceremony and joined in a commemorative photo.
In response to the letter and Dean Toyooka’s words of appreciation, Professor Araki and the student athletes expressed their heartfelt thanks and their commitment to taking the club to even greater heights.
