The 47th Shikata Festival Held for the First Time in Five Years!

On Sunday, November 3, and Monday, November 4, 2024, the 47th Shikata Festival took place, marking its return after a five-year hiatus since the last event in 2019. With few students remaining who had experienced the previous festival, a committee primarily composed of fourth- and fifth-year students organized the event. Using materials and records left by their predecessors, they worked tirelessly from summer to prepare, adapting to changes in social norms and awareness over the past five years.

Despite the rainy weather during the day on Saturday, November 2, the skies cleared by evening, allowing the much-anticipated festival to kick off with its pre-event celebrations. The main event on Sunday, November 3, and Monday, November 4, was blessed with summer-like weather. The campus grounds were lined with booths from various student clubs, and the specially set-up stage hosted dance performances, planned events, and a bingo tournament. Other attractions included live music in the gymnasium, a tea ceremony in the administration building lobby, and a photo exhibition in J Hall. Visitors, both locals and those from afar, mingled with students, creating a lively and warm atmosphere filled with smiles and meaningful exchanges.

Due to the presence of the university hospital on campus, the festival had been postponed even after COVID-19 was downgraded to a Category 5 equivalent. This year, however, the Shikata Festival was finally held, marking a significant milestone. Congratulations to everyone involved!

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended, and a special acknowledgment to the organizing committee members who worked tirelessly to adapt and plan under challenging circumstances. Your hard work made this event a tremendous success. Great job!
