The SD Certification Ceremony was held on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the SD (Student Doctor) Certification Ceremony was held at Junko Fukutake Hall on Okayama University’s Shikata Campus. This ceremony recognized fourth-year medical students who had successfully passed the Common Achievement Tests (CBT and OSCE) required for inter-university clinical training.
To participate in clinical training, medical students must pass the CBT, which assesses their medical knowledge, and the OSCE, which evaluates their clinical skills as well as their consideration for patients. The fourth-year students who successfully completed both exams donned brand-new white coats, generously provided through a donation from the Sekizenkai Foundation, and attended the ceremony in a tense and solemn atmosphere as they prepared for the clinical training beginning in January.
The ceremony was moderated by Professor Hosono, Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Congratulatory addresses and remarks on attitudes toward clinical training, professional responsibility as physicians, and societal expectations were delivered by Dean Wada of the Faculty of Medicine, Hospital Director Maeda, Mr. Koide, Board Chairman of the Sekizenkai Foundation, and Professor Kawaguchi, Head of the Medical School. Representing the newly certified Student Doctors of the 2025 academic year, Mr. Nakamura recited the Five Pledges.
In addition, fifth-year students Ms. Makiyama and Mr. Taniwaki, who had received their SD certification the previous year and are currently engaged in clinical training on hospital wards, shared congratulatory messages with their juniors. They spoke about what they had learned over the past year and the attitudes and mindset that should never be forgotten during clinical practice.
For the fourth-year medical students, the ceremony marked an important milestone as they move forward into clinical training, embracing the awareness and responsibility of becoming physicians and engaging sincerely with their patients.
