IB entrance exams

In 2012, Okayama University became the first national university in Japan to implement entrance examinations for applicants from IB-accredited schools (IB entrance exams). The Faculty of Medicine at Okayama University Medical School began accepting IB graduates three years later (in 2015). Every year, up to five graduates from IB schools are accepted (this is up from three students during 2015 to 2017), with a total of forty-eight students being accepted to the Faculty of Medicine as of 2020 (acceptance rate of 1.7). Rather than an academic test, the entrance exam comprises a document screening of high school results (IB score) and written personal statements as well as an interview screening process. Currently, there are fifteen students from IB schools registered at the Faculty of Medicine and they play an important role in on-campus committees.

Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine has taken the initiative in accepting applicants from IB-accredited schools because we recognize that students trained according to the IB curriculum meet the requirements set by the admission policy at the Faculty of Medicine.
